Housing Opportunities Milton Elderly, Inc. (H.O.M.E., Inc.) is a non-profit charitable corporation founded in the late 1970s by a group of established Milton citizens who were concerned about the lack of adequate housing for the elderly and disabled persons of moderate means who were not eligible for government-subsidized housing. All Miltonites, former Miltonites, and parents of Miltonites are eligible to become members of H.O.M.E., Inc., regardless of race, color, creed, gender, or national origin; you must be at least 62 to reside at H.O.M.E., Inc.
H.O.M.E., Inc., sits on a 33-acre site at the intersection of Blue Hills Parkway and Canton Avenue, with the entrance on Blue Hills Parkway. The Lamb sisters of Milton agreed to sell the land only after stringent environmental and conservation restrictions were met. Fourteen acres of the original plot are now permanently under conservation restriction and surround the development with a natural border that sets the property apart and adds to the rural atmosphere the residents enjoy.
H.O.M.E., Inc. comprises 27 townhouse-style buildings, each with either 3 or 4 units, for 98 dwelling units. These units are designed with comfort and convenience in mind. There are 5 different building styles and an exciting variety of 14 distinct unit styles, all with two bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms, air-conditioning, a one-car garage, and ample individual storage space. Thirty-one units are on one floor, while the others have at most six steps up to the bedroom level. The buildings are tastefully spaced on six different roads and around cul-de-sacs, which form a natural neighborhood and, at the same time, take advantage of the surrounding landscape.
Home Inc. is a non-profit organization overseen by eight board members and an executive director. Residents elect the board members, who serve without compensation.
